Do you have pigmentation?

Pigmentation. A word you hear very often in the skin industry and is a very common skin concern among our clients.

Pigmentation is an umbrella term that affects the colour (or discolouration) of skin. Pigmentation can present both darker or lighter and can be temporary or permanent. We will be focusing on what we see the most and that is hyperpigmentation.

Genetics determine our inherent skin color, but other factors can influence the activity of melanocytes, which produce melanin. Under specific conditions, excess production of melanin leads to uneven pigmentation (discolouration) across the face and body.

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIHP)

Trauma to the skin (pimples, picking, burns, friction) can cause Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIHP) which can present as purplish, reddish, or brown areas on the skin. This type of pigmentation can improve with time but can also be treated effectively with treatments.

Our recommendations for PIHP include:

Skin needling:

Skin needling is a popular and highly effective treatment that regenerates the skin from deep under the surface. The skin needling device inserts tiny micro needles into the skin to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.\

Laser

Laser is a proven, effective treatment for correcting a wide range of pigmentation. Using different wavelengths and techniques laser targets the unwanted melanin and removes it safely and effectively.

Nano fractional RF skin resurfacing

The skin resurfacing applicator works with small pins that safely deliver energy through the skin’s surface. This creates tiny wounds, which the body then works to heal naturally. This process is what repairs signs of damage seen on the surface of the skin.

Melasma

Melasma is a complex pigmentation that is driven by a multitude of factors and often more than one at a time. Hormones, sun exposure, and trauma can lead to the development of melasma but often hormones are a driving factor which is why it is most commonly developed through pregnancy, menopause, or other hormonal changes. You are in luck if you have melasma because Cara has made a very effective protocol for treating melasma.

Our recommendations include:

Cosmelan or Dermamelan

Cosmelan® has a powerful depigmenting effect due to its high concentration of active ingredients. Suitable for all skin types and tones, Cosmelan® addresses inconsistencies and brightens and unifies skin tone while improving skin texture.

Laser

Q-Switch Laser is the gold standard in lasers, designed to treat stubborn hormonally-induced pigmentation (melasma).

Sun damage/photodamage

The most common form of pigmentation is “sun spots”. This is the pigment caused by the sun that leaves the skin with “brown spots, or freckles”. Good news, we can very effectively remove this for you.

Our recommendations include:

Mineral Jessner

During the treatment, the combination of Lactic and Salicylic Acids with Resorcinol penetrates deep into the layers of the skin. This encourages the regeneration of skin cells which results in a fresher, healthier, and more youthful appearance.

Laser

Laser Toning removes or lightens the appearance of dark, discoloured patches on your skin. The laser energy selectively destroys the melanin to leave a clearer, consistent complexion. Suitable for all skin types.

Skin Needling

Skin needling is a popular and highly effective treatment that regenerates the skin from deep under the surface. The skin needling device inserts tiny micro needles into the skin to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.\
